Easter Memories: Dressing Up & Chocolate Smiles

Easter brings back memories of being a little girl, one of three sisters, sitting on the front porch having a photo taken of us in new outfits. From head to toe we would be freshly outfitted, each with an Easter basket of eggs and bunnies in our hands and chocolate smiles for the camera.

Easter’s in the North East can be cool some years, or delightfully warm and sunny other years. This Easter I’ll be wearing my Flanders Jacket in baby wale corduroy, a soft powdered blue, the ruffled Emma Blouse in delicate peach voile, and the Lovely Linda Skirt tossed with coral and pink flowers on self striped cotton. I think I’ll have my picture taken with three imaginary little girls- one floating like a dancer in the Posyette Dress in pretty orange, one In the Dotty Dress with playful polka dots, and one in the Fleuri Dress, a flurry of red flowers to go with her sassy smiles.

Motherhood & Memories

There is nothing as precious or as impactful as childhood. Even as adults we can see the impact of a childhood filled with love and care, and a childhood without.
Being a mother and a grandmother I am conscious of this memory making time. The rituals, the routines, the occasions, and the people that give those fleeting days its value and worth and carry forward to be drawn on all of the days of our lives. This is the emotional and artistic place where I draw my inspiration for our babies' and girls' clothing. I want to make every piece beautiful, every piece delightful, every piece comfortable and worthy of the memories that will be made in it.
We were three sisters growing up just 2 1/2 years between the oldest and the youngest. My mother loved to dress us up, unwittingly creating the first models for my future girl's collection. Now I have a little baby granddaughter and she carries all of the hope and the dreams of the family - you can be sure she wears them well! She looks especially adorable in her Maddy Jacket!

New Horizons Come with Fall

Somewhere along the line the tradition of school starting after Labor Day weekend in the U.S. became blurred. In many parts of the country the school year is underway already. It still feels a little strange to me. But then its kind of funny that I still note the start of school because its been awhile since I sent a child out the door with lunch and best wishes for a good day. It's probably that it brings back happy memories of my own school days. While I mourned the fading days of summer, there was an excitement to getting ready to get back to school. Each new school year holds promise and new frontiers. 

Our new fall collection  is filled with many pretty dress styles for girls of all ages. Whether you are dressing a daughter for back-to-school, or you are dressing yourself, I think you'll love what you see.

Enjoy the last days of summer, and always remember that though one season is coming to an end, a fresh new one is ahead ,filled with new horizons and adventures. No need to be going back to school to enjoy it!

Little Girls in Sunny Dresses

Little girls in lovely dresses are such a vision on a summer day. Their childhood days is fleeting, and every mother soon learns how true it is that it seems to be gone in a wink. 

    Now that I am grandmother to a little girl, I am enjoying childhood from a magical new view. I'm going to make sure that Josie has many happy memories in colorful, wonderful little dresses. 

    I have enjoyed designing girl's dresses for many years. I have had many customers share heartwarming memories about dressing their girls in April Cornell designs. It makes me happy to be a part of their lives in my own artful way. Taking time to make an occasion out of the ordinary often reaps a lifelong memory. Don't be afraid to let her wear a dress and take a big spin around the backyard this summer!
