For the Love of Quilting + Fabric Giveaway

I love textiles, old, new, bold and mellow. It is not hard to understand that the quilt industry and quilters are near and dear to my heart.

Recently…Amy White stopped by our office in Vermont and showed me her beautiful quilt. She made this quilt from an assortment of April Cornell fabrics. She also made fun pet collars, and collage fabric pictures.

Inspirations: Moda Charm Pack Give-Away

 

Inspiration for my designs comes from many things. It's often a flower, bird, or a landscape that calls to me to be interpreted in fabric design or that might translate into a quilt. Often, architectural elements speak to me. I've always been fascinated with windows. Openings to new possibilities, new worlds, new opportunities. They intrigue me and I have many sketches and snapshots of diverse architectural windows from my travels. Such was the case when I visited Fatehpur Sikri near the Taj Mahal. Built by the Moghul Emperor Akbar between 1571 and 1585, it is a now-deserted but beautifully preserved city that is a fusion of many styles of architecture. 

     An intricately carved screen that serves as a ventilated window in one of the castle walls seemed like it would translate well to a quilt wall hanging. I played with different fabrics and moved them around until I liked the combinations. I like to work on a layout pad first, which is what I am sharing here. You get the idea of where I am going with it.    

     What inspires you when you create. Whether its a quilt or paper collage...a sewing project or a sketch? Is a something from your travels, a book you have read? What is your muse?

What Do You See?

Where some see flowers, others see plaids... And sometimes we see both. It's always interesting to see what quilt designers do with a fabric collection. I may choose larger florals in liberated patches, while another selects precise patches of plaid. This quilt was created from Nature's Notebook by April Cornell by one of the talented quilters who work with Moda.  My quilt will be quite different. Once the line is out in fall, it will be wonderful to see how others interpret Nature's Notebook. Creative visions and interpretations can be so different. It's what makes the world so wonderful.

Nature's Notebook Debuts for Moda

Soft sage greens, buttery yellows and whispering blues are the theme of the new Nature's Notebook line of April Cornell fabric for Moda. 

I had a wonderful TweetUp at the Pittsburgh Quilt Market recently. I am in awe of how creative and different each quilter is in her choices of patterns and color combinations. The fabric is great for sewing clothing and accessories too.

The line will be in stores in the fall. Visit your local quilt store for pre-orders now.
