Thank You Earth

On earth day tree hugging goddesses get the respect and recognition they so deserve.

On earth day we honor our earth, and mother nature, and all those who are her stewards.

Say thank you today, to the trees, the soil, the plants, the animals, our sun and the very air we breathe.

And say thank you to the environmentalists and all who stand watch over our planet.

Today, commit to protect and appreciate our very special world.

Taj Mahal, Design through Time

If you've been following, you know I'm in Delhi for a few weeks working on designs with Donna Larrabee, our design director. Donna had never been to the Taj Mahal, so after work the other day, we headed to Agra so she could see this wonder of the world. I am always inspired by this great monument's spirit and majesty...
The Taj Mahal feels like a white mirage, a magical layered architectural preciseness that is like looking at a mist with absolute confonding clarity. A mastery of design and geometry and therefore beauty the perfectly proportioned building fills one with its mystery, and a deep appreciation of being in its presence.
Though all around it swirls and thunders modern India, the shrine remains a shrine and a witness to superb craftsmenship commisioned by love and money and toiled over by artists and craftsmen who suffered to commit to stone, to posterity this truly timeless beauty... I draw a big sigh for the carved, naturalistic, white marble tulips and lilies framed with moldings and buttressed by flowers of semi precious stones. They made me and others stroke their beauty and feel their soft glowing whitenss.
I wanted to get out a pencil and start to draw the same tulips. For they are tulips that we too have seen, full blown and graceful, in gardens in the spring. The lilies with their stamens reaching upwards -sunward. How good that made me feel, to think that these artisans had experienced the same gift of nature that I have. That they have immortalized it in perfect stone, should every seed and garden and blade of grass be lost.
Honeymoon couples, families, and seeming entire villages, even police cadets in training were strolling the grounds and taking thousands of pictures, delighted to be in such an important and inspiring spot. And creating their own colorful tableaus against this backdrop of white. We came for inspiration and indeed we were inspired, as have been so many for centuries before us.

Feel Beautiful, Be Beautiful, Live Beautiful

Make New Friends...

I am always cautious about using the word "busy" when someone asks how I am. We are all busy, and life is not a competition to see who is busiest. Although sometimes it feels that way!
If they did give out awards for busy, our office would be in the running this week. We have our wholesale sales reps in town for a meeting, a large national retail chain visited, the fall line debuts in less than two weeks, and we are launching a dedicated website for Canada. Phew, I have to stop and breath just thinking about it.
As the day quiets and comes to a close, I so enjoy checking in online and connecting with my friends and family. I am especially enjoying the new connections I am making with other creative kindred spirits.  I've met some delightful new women through their blogs. The winner of the Blogging for Bliss book giveaway from this blog is Lisa Zahn. It was fun to visit her blog and see her great kitchen makeover. Amazing what can be done with imagination and paint!
Deb from Posted From Home shared a story about a memory of April Cornell Christmas ornaments, so I wandered over to meet her on her blog. Being Canadian too, I especially enjoyed her perspectives.  And while I spent my day at the office in Burlington,  I am on a trip vicariously with Nerissa Alford.
One of the things I enjoy best is that on this platform there is little focus on our ages or where we live and other superficial things we tend to group others by. It is about shared interests, beautiful things and encouraging each other to pause and enjoy the creative parts of life. Meet Emily-Claire Stevens.  Her work is wonderful!
Our summer sale is wrapping up with 50% off the April Cornell site. The debut of the fall line is right around the corner, and the sale will soon be over, so stop on by.
